Facebook to move all users to new profile

Thursday, January 13, 2011
Facebook said today it will begin automatically moving all users over to its new profile design, which rearranges more popular features. Facebook initially made its new profile design optional to test reaction from users, when it first introduced it to the world in December.

The biggest changes to the new profile design are the appearance of a number of pictures at the top of the page and most of the navigation features are now under the user’s profile photo. The new user interface is similar to Facebook’s Places page. Facebook said in its blog post that hundreds of millions of users have already converted to the new profile design manually.

Facebook said on its blog post yesterday the new profile “Now makes it even easier for you to tell your story and learn about your friends”. At the top of the new profile there is a short summary of who you are, where you live and work. Recently tagged photos show your friends what you have been doing, and there is more room on the page for users to focus on important friendships like coworkers, roommates, or teammates. The new design also lets users tag friends from important life experiences.
